ABOUT ME
What inspires me?
I love American vintage styled illustrations! I also love the ancient Japanese block prints UKIYO- E style of expression. Artists like Mary Blaire, Rebecca Green, Eyvind Earle and Tyrus Wong are some among many! There is something beautiful about gouache vintage illustrations and messy urban sketches. Still life and everyday depictions of life bring me comfort and joy! I love color, but i also love a good monochrome piece… is that contradictory? I don’t know. Oh! and red ink? Chef’s kiss!
When did I start making art?
From a young age as long as i can remember I loved sketching with pencil and paper. I was a perfectionist and you would often find crumbled pieces of paper under the family couch. For a couple of years as a teenager i stopped making art and would only do so sporadically. However, when I came to my 20’s i picked up on digital art. It was a neighbor at my old apartment; Tina, who introduced me to watercolor and gouache and the rest was history!
Where am I from?
Originally I was born in Cuba; and came to the U.S on a lottery visa at the age of 5
Want to know me more personally?
Favorite shows of All Time? Twilight Zone, The Office, SpongeBob, Hey Arnold, Little House on the Prairie.
Favorite Art Medium? Acrylic Inks! They can be used just like watercolors but are permanent!
Favorite type of Canvas? Paper. In specific Arches Cotton paper; I love the texture and feel of a brush on it!
Something I miss? Picking a movie at Blockbuster on Friday night, and if I was lucky; getting something off the candy isle!
Artistic Goals? I want to paint much larger on paper; then mount it on wood with a floating frame!
Least favorite thing about Art? Probably painting on cheap primed store canvases. I hate the sensory feel and the way paint bubbles on it!
Art Mission:
I want the person looking at my art to go into a world or story, by using color and layered details that have a childlike nostalgic feel.
